General assembly

The organisation
Founded in 1998 around the Koungou Falls, Brainforest now works on natural resource governance, land rights and transparency.
History
Brainforest is a Gabonese non-governmental organisation. Its initial goal was to protect the Koungou Falls on the Ivindo River in north-western Gabon, then threatened by a hydroelectric dam intended to power the Belinga iron ore mine.
Since then, its work has expanded comprehensively to natural resource governance. Issues related to forest protection, land tenure, transparency, the rights of local communities and indigenous peoples, environmental defenders, and the equitable redistribution of revenues from exploitation remain at the heart of our commitment.
